The Dharma protector
|
This tutelary deity is one of the Dharmapalas who defend the Dharma from corruption and degeneration and from forces hostile to it; to keep the site of the ritual free from impure thoughts and actions; to guide and protect the individual practitioner from all kinds of deception and delusion; bestow the power to overcome life struggles; and to eliminate one's obstacles and impediment that hinders.
At this age of Kaliyoga, Dharma is weakening, evil forces emerge and fortune decrease. Everywhere, countless lives and properties are lost in wars, natural disasters and viruses. With the blessing and power of Mahakala, countries would become prosperous and one would be kept away from these obstacles and misfortunes.

At the end of every year, it is traditional for all Karma Kagyu Monasteries to perform the year-end Mahakala Grand Puja and Sacred Dance. The puja normally lasts around 7-9 days. The Sacred Protector Dance called Gonpo Cham would also be performed
The ritual would usually be attended by many local and overseas Dharma friends, so that all obstructive forces and evil activities to the Body, Speech and Mind would be destroyed and removed to usher in the New Year.
